Passion for the ancient tradition of viticulture
Our small wine estate
We own a small plot of land about 2000 metres from the village, where the typical South Tyrolean red wine Schiava has been cultivated for decades. Since 2007, we have also been making our house wine, Michele Wirt Vernatsch/Schiava, which we initially bottled as an open red wine on tap. For the last three years, we have offered it in 0.75 bottles, which we also served to our guests.
However, 2015 was the last vintage of the Vernatsch/Schiava variety. The plant had to be modernised, as the yield and conditions no longer met the current requirements for modern wine ageing.
Planting of the two new grape varieties began in May 2016. We opted for the white wine variety Chardonnay and the red wine variety Pinot Noir. These two varieties are ideal for the location and soil.
Great importance was also placed on the aesthetics of the new planting. The metal frame system was fixed to pillars made of local chestnut wood.
